Comments:
This group of pictures illustrates the construction of the hull of the Arizona. Please note that in some pictures you may see parts looking differently than parts in the kit - a result of the changes incorporated in the kit during construction of the test model. For example part ... visible in picture No.3 has a different layout of cut-outs in the finnished model.

  • Rectangular shape visible in picture No.5 on both sides of part 24 is my way of creating a “mounting dock” for the finished model. The parts are not included in the kit but can be easily made from cardstock. I made two “docks” like this in locations corresponding to rectangles drawn on parts 32 and 33 . The rectangles are then cut out - see picture No. 6. In the wooden base on which I display my model, I installed two pins that “lock” into these “mounting docks” and hold the model in place without the need of permanently attaching it to the base.
  • Pictures No.12 and No.13 show my technique of installing bilge keels to the hull. A thin strip of 1mm thick cardstock is glued to the hull in the location of the keel. This will be a “guide” along which the keel will be glued to the hull. It also provides some gluing surface to which the keel can be attached.
  • In some pictures it can be seen that a part of the hull plating has a different color tone - see picture No.9. This is a printing mistake that occurred when I had to re-print some parts a day or two after the main batch of parts was printed. The level of the ink in my printer changed during this time and this resulted in a change in tone. Suggestion - print two sets of hull plating (red parts) in one session to avoid such problems.
